Maintenance of Motors | Inspection Points

2023-06-05

Point 1

Check whether the motor speed is normal, with no speed fluctuation or stalling, as confirmed by a tachometer.

Point 2

Check whether the motor foot bolts are loose, whether the foundation is intact, and whether there is any debris around the motor.

Point 3

Check whether the motor cover and coupling are intact, whether the coupling connection screws are loose, whether there is any debris or stains on the motor body, and whether the ventilation openings are blocked.

Point 4

For air-cooled motors, check whether the air ducts are unobstructed, whether all connections are secure, whether the dampers are correctly positioned, and whether natural ventilation is adequate.

For water-cooled motors, check whether the cooling water pipelines are unobstructed, whether there is any leakage, and whether the cooling water temperature and flow are within normal ranges.

Points to Note

Point 1

For synchronous motors, wound-rotor motors, and similar types, check whether the brushes and slip rings have good contact, whether commutation sparks are present, and whether the color and shape of the sparks are normal.

Point 2

Check whether the excitation system of the synchronous motor is operating normally.

Point 3

Check whether the motor wiring and grounding connections are secure and not loose.

Special Inspection Points

Point 1

Check whether the operating current exceeds the allowable value, whether it matches the actual load, whether there are sudden changes, whether the voltage is within the permitted range, and whether phase loss occurs.

Point 2

Check whether the temperature of each motor component exceeds the allowable limit.

Point 3

Check whether the bearings are overheated, whether the lubricating grease is sufficient, whether the oil level indicator shows a normal level, and whether the oil ring rotates smoothly.

Point 4

Check whether there is smoke, discoloration, or any other signs of overheating.
